Event Description

This heartwarming, award-winning short film presents Paul Gralen who, when diagnosed with ALS, makes the brave decision to use legally available methods to end his own life.
Beth Orr, his wife, reaches out to William Peters, founder of the Shared Crossing Project, for assistance in manifesting a shared death experience (SDE) and engages in a process that enables a conscious, connected, and loving end-of-life experience.
Following the screening, Dr. Monica Williams, Medical Director of the Shared Crossing Project, and William Peters, Founder of the Shared Crossing Project, will interview Beth Orr about her bedside experiences, including her SDE.

Biographies

William Peters, M.Ed., M.F.T., is the founder of the Shared Crossing Project and Director of the Shared Crossing Research Initiative. A licensed M.F.T. therapist, he holds an M.A. in Counseling from the California Institute of Integral Studies, an M.Ed. in Group Dynamics from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and a B.A. in Political Economy from the University of California.
William is recognized as the world’s leading authority on the shared death experience (SDE) having developed research-based typologies that classify the full range of SDEs. He also created the Spectrum of End-of-Life Experiences, a user-friendly guide to assist the dying, caregivers and health care professionals in navigating and understanding phenomena that can manifest at the end of life.

Dr. Monica Williams is an award-winning writer, international author, speaker and board-certified Emergency Physician. She has lectured and written extensively on transforming death and dying in Modern America, based on precepts from her book, “It’s OK to Die”. Considered an expert on medical decision-making at the end of life, she has been featured in multiple media sources including the Emmy Award winning TV show, “The Doctors” and the Washington Post. Her end-of-life preparation checklists have been adopted by the UCLA Healthcare System and the UK’s National Health System. Dr. Williams welcomes dialogue regarding exceptional states of consciousness which may occur for the dying, their loved ones and the healthcare providers who attend the dying. These exceptional experiences, if affirmed and integrated, may serve to trigger profound healing and growth for individuals and inspire more holistic support by institutions that serve the dying.
